"We are extremely excited to announce that today we established the 'Mario Basner Passion Project Fund' for the University of Las Vegas' College of Fine Arts."
Mario Basner and his wife, Deanna Riley, wish to encourage students to identify and carry out a passion project unique and meaningful to them. The fund will provide financial support for Art Deparment students enrolled at UNLV majoring in photography, facilitate associated costs and provide opportunities to travel, domestic or foreign, in order to experience a creative immersion in a subject matter or location, discover agency and find their voice through photography. Additional support is provided by the Zeiss lens company, which will outfit the selected students with some of the world's best lenses.
"We are so grateful to Mario and Deanna for their very gracious gift," said Dean Uscher. "Community partnerships are a vital component of our students' education. It is through these innovative and rich partnerships that we are able to offer students a truly distinctive education."
